With the help of Sydney Kittelberger and Betty Luo, we created a short demo of the game within the span of one month. The story is entirely planned out, and we intend to continue work on the project for the following months

Back for Now was meant to be a quick project meant just for experimenting, but it quickly became more.

Project Workflow

1.

Planning + Conceptualizing

Planning began with Betty Luo and me. The story came first: a game featuring a spirit as the protagonist who remembers nothing but her own nature, helping others. We knew from the start that we wanted this game to be something deeper than the sum of its parts.

2.

Concept Art and Story

After asking Sydney to join the project, we moved on to more solid concepts.  Sydney took charge of the environment art, while betty and I worked on the characters. Sibyl, our protagonist,  with the help of my team, came out just as we'd hoped.

3.

Asset Creation

This stage included the tilesets and character sprites. By frequently communicating with one another, we were able to complete this stage within a reasonable time-frame.

4.

Future Plans

Despite having part of the game done, the team has elected to go for something bigger. While keeping the same story and gameplay loop, we intend to switch to Unity for game development and plan on changing the game's aesthetic to be somewhat darker. Though we don't know exactly what the future holds for the game, we have a plan on how to get there.
